Research Project
With the recent explosion of microarray based research, vast
of amounts of data have been produced. To handle all this information,
the field of Bioinformatics has increased to handle the high-throughput
of data via the use of computing systems. As a bioinformatic
specialist, one of my goals is to find an efficient and cost
effective way of storing the large amounts of data retrieved
from microarray experiments conducted in the laboratory. The
database dbZach, which I help maintain, was created to address
this need. One of my other goals as a bioinformatician is to
automate the preliminary processing and analysis of the raw
microarray data via the use of computers. The main purposes
of automating this process is to eliminate human interaction
which might introduce human error and biases into the processing
of the raw data and to increase the throughput of the analysis.
One of my other duties in the laboratory will have me involved
with the preparation of clones for printing onto microarrays.
