January 24, 2002

Introduction:

q                   Sign-up sheet

q                   Officers and offices

The BMB club would like to have an official executive board. This will be discussed and finalized at our next meeting, therefore if interested in holding an office, please attend!

Projects:

I.                   T-shirts

Each club member was asked to bring one T-shirt design to show at our next meeting. Ideas discussed:

n       “Twist and Writhe” with DNA extending from the words on one side, an

X-ray crystal structure of DNA Topoisomerase on the other

n       “I survived one or more of the following courses” (list BMB courses)

n       “Taming the second hardest major”

n       “Biochemistry and Molecular Biology” (with a design appropriate for staff, students, etc.)

n       “Top 10 reasons to be a Biochemistry major”

Use these ideas or come up with your own; designs will be finalized at the upcoming meeting. Come with a design!

II.                 Web page and links for Scholarships, Internships and Fellowship opportunities

This project will be discussed further at the next meeting.

III.              Web page for BMB tutoring room

BMB tutors will handle this project.

IV.              Profiles of BMB undergraduates

Each club member was asked to select a Biochemistry major (friend, classmate…) to interview. (Questions should revolve around “Why did you choose to major in Biochemistry?” and “What do you intend to do with your Biochemistry degree?” and may range from serious to comical). At the next meeting we make sure we have a distribution of freshmen to seniors and differing career goals, then proceed with interviews in the coming weeks.

Activities:

I.                   Science day at the Meridian Mall: February 2, 2002

q                   Ideas for activities
